Art allows you to put yourself in someone’s shoes and not only observe the world from their perspective but also feel the emotions they’re feeling. Ross Blagg was a young artist when he first learned about plastic surgery as a teenager. It turned out to be a life-changing experience both for him, as a surgeon, and for his future patients.
At only fourteen-years-old, Dr. Ross made pursuing a career in plastic surgery his career goal. “Once I discovered the wide range of operations a plastic surgeon could do and the fusion of art, medicine, and science, I was hooked,” he recalls when asked about how he determined this life would be a good fit for him.
Dr. Ross today is a renowned plastic surgeon based in Austin, Texas. He is currently at Synergy Plastic Surgery, alongside four other experts in the field.
When not performing surgeries, he fills his life with adventure. He loves to go scuba diving (specifically with sharks!), travel, and loves road-tripping across the US to meet new people. A humanitarian at heart, the COVID pandemic grounded Dr. Ross from his usual international work, so he decided to strike out across his own country to find those in need of reconstruction. He founded Lyfe in Plastic Productions, and began work on Plastic Surgery Road Trip (PSRT), a project based on the concept of adventure philanthropy.
In PSRT, which is currently airing on YouTube, Dr. Ross, along with a new buddy for each trip, scours the country looking for deserving people with great stories who have already revamped their own lives and who need plastic surgery to help complete their journeys. Along the way, he and his buddy create an American road trip adventure and they take a deep dive into the lives of those they are helping. It’s a bit of “Queer Eye” meets “Parts Unkown.” The ‘journey’ is completed as the patient travels to Austin, Texas for surgery with Dr. Ross.
Dr. Ross says that he loves PSRT because it combines all the things he loves in life: plastic surgery, adventures with friends, amazing stories, and helping others.
