Despite excelling in scholastics, Melanie Avalon was always fond of the entertainment industry. While in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, she acted in community theatre and gained a passion for acting. She left college early at the age of 17, to attend the USC School of Theatre and School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, during which time she interned for producers like Jerry Bruckheimer, Julia Pistor (the former head of Nickelodeon Movies and Executive Producer at Mattel), and Jim Whitaker at Disney Studios. Her acting career took a turn when she became part of the official actor’s union, SAG-AFTRA.
Amidst her successful career, the passionate actress never stopped exploring life. She admits falling into the world of “biohacking” as a necessity when she faced her own chronic health challenges. However, this need soon turned into an obsession with the workings of the human body, and after exploring and benefiting from multiple techniques and tools, Melanie wished to share her findings with others. Inspired by her experiences, Melanie created the top iTunes podcasts The Intermittent Fasting Podcast and The Melanie Avalon Biohacking Podcast, which have received close to 20 million downloads.
According to Melanie, “There is no single dietary answer in our individual journeys.” To best benefit her audience, Melanie not only shares her personal insights but also invites biohacking guests on her podcasts, to ensure she explores all perspectives. For example, she’s welcomed renowned figures in the “carnivore diet” movement, such as Dr. Paul Saladino (The Carnivore Code) and Dr. Shawn Baker (The Carnivore Diet), as well as vegan proponents, including Alan Goldhamer (founder of TrueNorth Health Center), Dr. Doug Graham (The 10/10/10 Diet), Cyrus Khambatta, PhD, and Robby Barbaro, MPH (Mastering Diabetes), and Dr. Dean and Ayesha Sherzai (co-directors of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Program at Loma Linda University and authors of the The Alzheimer’s Solution). Her incredible guest list also includes NYT best sellers Robb Wolf (The Paleo Solution), Wim Hof (The Wim Hof Method), and Dave Asprey (The Bulletproof Diet).
To further spread peace in terms of health, Melanie published What When Wine: Lose Weight and Feel Great with Paleo-Style Meals, Intermittent Fasting, and Wine, where she discusses the science and practicality of eating well, drinking wine, and still losing weight. She also developed the top iTunes app, Food Sense Guide, which helps users identify their potential food sensitivities, and as a result, minimize any sort of food reactions that may be experienced from natural compounds in food.
Melanie has also partnered with multiple brands over the past few years. These include health trackers like Oura Ring (which tracks heart rate, heart rate variability, respiration, activity, and sleep) and InsideTracker (which provides blood tests analyzed by ideal rather than conventional ranges, and personalized dietary and lifestyle recommendations to lower one’s “inner age”). She also loves companies like BluBlox (which provides blue-light blocking glasses to help reduce stress and enhance sleep), and Joovv red and near infrared light therapy devices, to further tackle one’s circadian rhythm, reduce muscle soreness, enhance skin, and support the health of the mitochondria. Melanie has also partnered with companies that help individuals optimize their healthy lifestyles, while preserving the environment. Such brands include services that directly connect consumers to sustainable farmers, like Butcher Box.
Whenever Melanie recommends anything, be it a brand or healthy habit, she has always tried and tested it herself. Her curiosity and love for exploring different avenues of health have catalyzed her journey, resulting in her success thus far. As a successful podcaster, she now wishes to convert her podcasts into her own TV show.
