We got no troubles; life is the bubbles, under the sea – Sebastian from The Little Mermaid.
The world below the waves is one full of color, life, and exceptional beauty. It is one of the most mesmerizing parts of nature that has attracted a few daring ones to dig deep into it and explore without fear. Technical diver and influencer Jason Borkland believe that as a citizen of the earth, it is his duty to treat the world with the utmost respect. And this is how he intends to live his life; as an ambassador of oceans.
To Jason, the pursuit of adventure is a lot more than a mere adrenaline rush. “It’s about seeing the world with the eyes wide open,” he gushes as he talks about his life’s passion. Despite having a family-inherited business of autos, Jason took up diving as a hobby only to become a professional diver, helping people learn the skill. His journey under the waters led him to the scientific community and directly assisted in tagging operations of sharks and researching and documenting pelagic animals.
His talent for underwater photography was unleashed during his expeditions below the sea. Today, scientists use his images and videos worldwide, especially in Costa Rica. As a master diver with a knack for photography, Jason relishes the opportunity to introduce others to a world of underwater adventures. Jason’s love of the sea has led him to ongoing commitments to marine conservation efforts through research, photography, and videography.
While much of his work is used by the scientific community, Jason also aspires to educate and inspire the common person to enjoy and explore the majestic world alongside him. He regularly creates content for his social media page @jasonborkland to enable others to travel with him to the deepest, darkest corners of the world.
His audience is in awe of what lies beneath the oceans and how marine life lives in different environments. Through his videos and photography, Jason highlights his rare encounters with sharks, dolphins, and various other creatures of the sea. While there is a lot of beauty to explore and share, Jason uses his voice and raw imagery to fight for wildlife. He writes, “The underwater world is incredibly beautiful but at the same time very fragile! Unfortunately, we have harvested our oceans, especially sharks way, way past what is sustainable! 1/3 of all shark species are presently listed with some type of EXTINCTION! We must not let sharks, the controlling factor for maintaining the health and balance of our ecosystems, the heart of our planet, perish! Without serious conservation efforts, this beautiful view will become a thing of the past!”
Jason hopes to make an even larger impact on the conservation community by making a documentary about specific threats to the oceans one day. As he continues gaining a powerful voice in ocean conservation through his social media and collaborations with the scientific community, the day seems much closer than before.
