Why would we want plants in our living spaces? The answer is simple; indoor plants have been proven to enhance your mood, increase creativity, reduce stress, and increase your air quality, making you generally healthier and happier. Let’s meet Lida Mankovskaya, an influencer, and blogger, who is popularizing the culture of nurturing houseplants through her Instagram and TikTok, @SpiritPlants.
Her own journey to embracing the life of plantcare is pretty refreshing. Lida is a successful corporate lawyer with an impressive professional background. Her resume includes such firms as Wilson Sonsini, Kim & Chang, and even a multinational conglomerate, Softbank. Lida says that caring for plants introduced a much needed balance to her life. It forced her to slow down and learn to be present. With Spirit Plants, Lida now wants to encourage others to find that balance. She guides her followers (whom Lida refers to as the “plant community”) on how to take care of houseplants as a means to selfcare. Her content is extremely engaging.
Spirit Plants grew to a healthy following of over 140K in less than two years at least in part due to the fact that Lida’s message truly resonates with people. She is, after all, popularizing something that is at its core one of the most natural acts – the act of nurturing nature. And Lida is certainly not the only one committed to this mission but there is something very unique in the way that Lida approaches it. On the one hand, she does so with an aura of professionalism and quality but, on the other hand, her content is authentic and unapologetically unique. For instance, most plant accounts offer the same visual perspective of greenery contrasted with white walls. The walls of Lida’s loft are bright pinkish-red. While others use “popular” audio repeatedly reused by other accounts, Lida prioritizes music that most of her audience have never heard before. All in all, with @SpiritPlants Lida is making plantcare culture popular in refreshing ways.
